Welcome to the Jumpmaster (JM) Program within the Canadian skydiving system.
The Jumpmaster is an instructor role of high responsibility, charged with working directly with students during the practical components of their skydives through the Instructor Assisted Deployment (IAD) or Static Line (SL) system and progressing students onward to non-contact freefall.
As a Jumpmaster, you are responsible for teaching and supervising critical, life-saving skills in real-time skydiving environments. This position requires technical proficiency, instructional clarity, sound judgment, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Understand the role and responsibilities of a Jumpmaster within the CSPA system
Demonstrate safe and effective control of students during IAD and Static Line operations
Apply proper spotting, exit control, and deployment procedures
Develop clear and concise in-air communication and instructional techniques
Identify and respond appropriately to student errors and emergency scenarios
Demonstrate strong canopy control and traffic awareness in student environments
Apply technical knowledge of equipment specific to student systems
Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making under stress
Conduct structured debriefs and provide corrective feedback to students
Demonstrate professionalism and leadership within a drop zone environment
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Coach 1 Trained (must be certified prior to receiving a portfolio)
Active CSPA B CoP
Minimum 200 jumps
Observe the role of a Jumpmaster at the DZ on two different loads
Complete the pre-course homework in the reference manual
Willingness to learn and professionally represent skydiving
Failure to meet prerequisites will result in removal from the course.
$400 Course Fee
$45 CSPA Administration Fee
Extra fees if charged by the DZ (packing, classroom fee, etc.) This will be divided among the candidates.
Remaining balance is due two weeks before the course
Share of travel costs/accommodation (not required if hosted locally)
12 jump slots (3 loads of 3 simulated “students”) to 3,500' — payable to the DZ
Student rental gear for 9 jumps — payable to the DZ
A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot.

The course runs for 2–3 days (some material may be delivered in advance).
Daily schedules depend on:
Drop zone logistics
Weather
Candidate progress
Effective time management
Expect flexibility. Some days may run late.
Time management is a critical instructor skill. You are expected to:
Arrive prepared and on time
Have equipment ready and parachutes packed
Complete waivers and DZ check-ins in advance
Use downtime productively (eating, preparing lesson plans, preparing for evaluations)
Assist with packing rigs for other JM candidates or evaluators as needed (teamwork is part of professionalism)
Bring your own food and plan accordingly.

Before attending, you must:

Review applicable IAD/Static Line procedures and emergency protocols
Observe the role of a Jumpmaster on two different loads
Candidates who arrive unprepared may not be permitted to continue.
During this course, you will be evaluated on your ability to perform as a Jumpmaster. This includes skydiving abilities, instructional abilities, equipment proficiency, critical thinking, and technical knowledge.
Evaluations will include:
Practical IAD/Static Line instructional simulations
In-air student control and evaluation
Written test
Equipment and procedural assessments
In addition, you will be assessed on attitude, willingness to learn, ability to follow directions, preparedness, and your ability to perform under stress. This is a serious course and a high-responsibility rating.
Courses may be conducted at various drop zones. The location must provide an appropriate and safe learning environment with adequate aircraft access and student training infrastructure suitable for IAD or Static Line operations.
